How the Left Have Brought an Identity Crisis to America

One of my favorite shows of the past decade and a half is Game of Thrones, an epic fantasy series about kings and armies, dragons and dark magic. At one point in the series, a man by the name of Theon Greyjoy gets captured, tortured and brutalized by Ramsay Bolton, one of the best and most memorable villains I've seen on television in a long time.
Over the course of a few seasons, Ramsey slowly but surely broke Theon's character. He humiliated him. He abused him. And perhaps worst of all, he redefined him, to the point where Theon was identifying himself as "Reek," with little to no recollection of who he used to be. Indeed, Ramsey had successfully stripped Theon's identity and replaced it with a new one.
When you think about the current political landscape, if the story of Ramsey and Theon seems eerily familiar to you, that's because it's very, very real. In fact, it's happening before our very eyes - the Democrat Party is stripping America of its identity.
If you wake up each day feeling like you've somehow slipped into the Twilight Zone, you're not alone. Millions of Americans feel this way (myself included), and for good reason. Nothing seems to make sense anymore. Values that we have held dear for decades have fallen victim to the woke crowd and their never-ending campaign for "social justice," "climate justice" "economic equity," and the likes.
Let's take a dive into some of these American values and dissect how the left are perverting them for their own political gain.
On wealth creation
In his book "Democracy in America," Alexis De Tocqueville pointed out how America's free markets were a core pillar of our country's strength. He noted (and I'm paraphrasing here) that accumulating wealth through business ventures, investment, etc. drove healthy competition, creativity and innovation, which in turn benefited society as a whole. In other words, De Tocqueville saw the value in an economic system that allowed citizens to pursue their own interests and become rich beyond their wildest dreams.
It used to be, in America, that we would look to wealthy business owners, inventors and entrepreneurs and say "I want to be like that person. Hopefully one day, through hard work and determination, I too can become successful."
Today, success is not celebrated, but rather demeaned and punished. From the left's deranged viewpoint, someone's success is nothing more than a measure of how successfully they ripped off the little guy. Therefore, they resort to old and tired lines like "make the rich pay their fair share," or more recently, in the case of Kamala Harris, "we need to go after companies engaged in price gouging."
Some on the left even support implementing caps on income, as if they have some kind of moral or constitutional authority to do so in the first place. As Barack Obama said in 2010 while speaking in Quincy, Illinois, "I do think at a certain point you've made enough money."
On religion
I'd like to remind our friends on the left of something that will surely make them shutter, but that doesn't make it any less true: America was founded on Christian-Judeo principles. That doesn't mean that we have a national religion; of course, Americans are free to practice their faith however they choose, or not have any faith at all for that matter. But you can't ignore the crucial role that Christian-Judeo prinicples played in the founding of our country. Every single one of our Founding Fathers believed in a divine power. The Declaration of Independence talks about the citizenry being "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights" - that is to say, rights that were given to us by God, not government.
Today, even acknowledging these basic truths about our founding is enough to throw the left into a tizzy. Christianity, in particular, is routinely at the center of their attacks, from banning prayer in public spaces to compelling religious institutions to support abortion against their will. As justification, they often point to the "separation of church and state," even though that line appears nowhere in the United States Constitution and was, in fact, part of a letter written by Thomas Jefferson to Danbury Baptists reassuring them that the government will not interfere with their religious practices. Here again, America's history - and our identity - is skewed and perverted.
On standards
Way back in 2003, when I was in third grade, I started my own reading club with my classmates. We read books from R.L. Stine's "Goosebumps" series, and then during free reading time, we would meet in the corner and talk about it. Everyone loved it - that is, until my liberal teacher pulled me aside one day and told me that I had to put an end to the reading club because it was "unfair" to those who weren't yet at that reading level.
Not knowing any better at the time, I obeyed my teacher's orders and stopped the club. My dad, on the other hand, raised hell. And looking back, I'm glad he did.
This mindset of lowering the bar instead of raising it has spread like a cancer through our society. The woke mob on the left has made it clear that things like "equality" and "diversity" are far more important than merit, and as a result, our institutions are crumbling. And if they're not crumbling yet, they will be sooner rather than later.
Case in point: in 2026, the National Conference for Bar Examiners, which administers a standardized BAR exam in most states throughout the U.S., is set to rollout the "NextGen" exam. This new exam will be far less rigorous and will test far fewer areas of the law, with the NCBE's stated goal to "ensure that diversity, fairness and inclusion pervade its test products and services."
Similar "lower-the-bar" practices are being implemented in countless institutions across the country, from education, to the police force and firefighters, to airlines and transportation. The result, no doubt, will be catastrophic. Instead of rewarding and promoting the best and brightest to run these institutions, our country will more and more often settle for mediocrity in the name of diversity.
On freedom
On the global stage, the United States has always had a very special role: to be a beacon of liberty in a world filled with authoritarian regimes. Since our founding, we have prided ourselves on the unalienable rights of our citizens outlined in our Constitution, including but not limited to, the right to speak freely, the right to practice religion, the right to peacefully protest, the right to bear arms, the right to a fair and just legal system, and the right to pursue happiness free from excessive government oversight.
Today, liberals are tearing down our country as a beacon of freedom, because they are at war with the Constitution. The freedom of speech constantly falls under attack by leftists claiming to be noble warriors against what they consider to be "misinformation" (except if the mainstream media perpetuates misinformation - in that case, it's perfectly fine). The freedom of religion is under assault, as we previously discussed, and the government's ever-increasing role in virtually every aspect of our lives hinders the individual pursuit of happiness. For these reasons and much more, the bastion of liberty that America once was is in jeopardy.
What does it all mean?
The progressive left has distorted, and in many cases, flat-out erased, our country's longstanding values; core principles that have historically made America great. And the truly diabolical part of it all is that it's intentional. They know that if they can successfully strip America of it's identity through various insidious tactics - creating mass confusion and turning people against each other by way of the mainstream media, compelling businesses to prioritize DE&I, discouraging innovation and wealth creation through unconstitutional laws and executive fiat, etc. - then they can come in and introduce America to a new identity. An identity that is wholly un-American, with them - the Democrat Party - firmly in control.
This is why we must elect Donald Trump in November and put an end to this madness. We must resist this attempt by Kamala Harris and her allies on the left to redefine us and rebrand us. If we don't, our identity - our true identity - will be lost forever.
